Transferring From Outside Rutgers

Students must submit an online application for external transfer through Rutgers Admissions. The priority application deadline for a Fall/September admission is February 1st, for Spring/January admission, October 1st. (visit the application/admission timetable for more information).

Application Inquiries

Transfer applications to the School of Engineering are processed by Rutgers Admissions. You should be able to find most information through Rutgers Admissions websites including additional information for international applicants. For questions about your application status or other issues related to the application process, please consult with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions directly.

Transfer Requirements

• Students must complete: 2 semesters of calculus, 1 semester of calculus-based physics, and 1 semester of chemistry. An associate degree from a two-year college is NOT required for transfer nor does it improve one's chance of being admitted.
• Students must earn a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 2.75 (out of 4.0) in the four key courses listed above and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better, with no Ds or Fs, when the application is submitted. Students who have earned a D or an F in a course should repeat that course before applying for transfer.
• Students must submit all the credentials required for the transfer application.

Transfer Credits and Course Evaluation

• Transfer Credits: Rutgers-School of Engineering does not accept bulk transfer credits. The transfer evaluation is done course-by-course. In general, credits are granted for courses taken at accredited colleges and universities if they are the equivalent of courses offered by Rutgers University and a grade of at least a “C” has been earned.
• Course Equivalencies: All the course descriptions at Rutgers can be found in the Rutgers Undergraduate Catalog. If there are over 75% similarities in coverage, the course is equivalent. You may notice from our engineering curriculum that, unlike many engineering technology programs, Rutgers engineering is very heavy in math, physics, and science subjects. Therefore, most engineering technology courses from a two-year college are not transferable to Rutgers-School of Engineering even if they share similar course titles.
• Transferring from NJCCs: Students should refer to NJ Transfer for course equivalencies between a NJ Community College and Rutgers Engineering. To get the most transfer credits when coming from a NJCC, students should follow an engineering science curriculum (not a technology curriculum). Engineering science programs tend to follow a similar curriculum to our program in calculus, calc-based physics, chemistry, and other science and general engineering courses.
• AP, IB, GCE Courses: Students may be awarded credits through the combination of Advanced Placement examinations, International Baccalaureate, General Certificate of Education, and other proficiency examinations. Note that the School of Engineering does not accept the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) for credits.
